To My Brothers, Sisters, Friends, and Family;
I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to share with you how God has been moving in my life this year at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I want to thank each one of you in advance for personally taking the time to read the entirety of this letter.
One of God’s greatest blessings in my life has been the ability to work through the campus ministry known as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at both Rock Valley College, and the University of Wisconsin-La Cross e. Most recently my involvement with InterVarsity afforded me the opportunity to attend the Urbana Global Missions Conference in St Louis. It was there God opened my eyes to the immeasurable need for those of us in Christ to focus on the billions of people across the world who do not even have access to the Gospel, and therefore no access to knowledge of our hope in Jesus.
After prayerful consideration I am beyond grateful to be able to tell you that this summer I have the opportunity of a lifetime; to go serve with my brothers and sisters in Christ in Istanbul, Turkey from June 9th-29th. After much thought and time in prayer, I believe it is no coincidence that God has opened this door for me to serve Him.
Turkey was one of the world’s first major depots for the spread of the Gospel in biblical times. In fact, all of the churches of Revelation are located in what is now modern day Turkey. Unfortunately today Turkey is composed of 96% Muslim and less than 1% Christian. Offering encouragement and support to the existing church in Turkey has never been needed more than now. My hope is that as believers in Christ, my one ambition would be the same as Paul’s in Romans 15:20; “I aspired to preach the Gospel where Christ was not known”
During my time in Turkey, I will be working with a variety of existing Christian ministries in and around Istanbul. Among these is the chance to teach English at V———k School, an orphanage for abused and abandoned boys. There I will not only be able to serve those who have much less than I have, but I will have the opportunity to be one of the few influences for Jesus that these boys have in their life. Most importantly, I will have the opportunity to simply speak of Jesus to those who may have never heard His name.
We all know that the world is in desperate need of “Goers;” those who will travel the world for the cause of Christ. But without “Senders” making the opportunity possible, many great opportunities to spread the love of Jesus would be missed. As I step out in faith to take part in God’s great mission as a “Goer,” would you consider whether God may be calling you to be a part of His great mission as a “Sender?” With your support of $50, $150, $250, or more, the mission to raise $2,850 to fund my trip and proclaim the name of Jesus to the ends of the earth can become OUR mission.
Certainly the option to give financially is not going to be possible for some, but I would like to plead with each one of my friends and family to keep my mission, heart, and most importantly my faith, in their prayers as I move forward in pursuit of this excellent opportunity.
Again, I would like to make sure it is extremely clear how thankful I am for your presence in my life, and for God’s direction over the course of my life. Without you, I surely would not be where I am today. The longer I live, the more abundantly clear it is to me that God has blessed me with the world’s greatest network of family and friends. For that, words cannot express how eternally grateful I am for you.
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:13-15
In Christ, Michael Arnold
