Mission to Malawi: Days of Favor

Back in 2011 I had the chance to travel for the first time to Malawi, Africa with a JESUS Project Film Team. Having been translated into more than 1,000 languages, The JESUS Film has led to over 200 million to make decisions for Christ.

During this trip I had the chance to work alongside dedicated nationals who were committed to planting and growing local churches in Malwai through the use of this exciting ministry tool. One of these was pastor Blessings Mtete of Revival Christian Church. And the other was Gerald Nkowani, head of LIFE Ministries, which is an extension of CRU in Malawi. Over the years I’ve learn to pay special attention to those whose path I cross, as one never knows what God might have in store.

In Malawi with Pastor Blessings and Angela     Fast forward to 2016 and as I prayed over the direction of my ministry in the summer months, I felt led to contact both Pastor Blessings and Gerald. I had hoped for some time to have the chance to return to Malawi and it was also my hope that I might have to chance to serve their respective ministries.

Both Blessings and Gerald encouraged me to plan a trip, and so I spent most of the month of August in Malawi. Pastor Blessings invited me to be the featured speaker for a series of afternoon and evening meetings for leaders called “Seven Days of Favor.” I also spoke twice each Sunday at Revival Christian Church. Gerald scheduled me to minister at a leadership training workshop with LIFE Ministries. In addition I was invited to speak at two luncheon meetings for business leaders in the community.

Malwai is an extremely poor country. This has the positive effect of making the people very open to the Gospel message. The downside is that they also are susceptible to false teachers and the prosperity gospel. Many of the poorest in Malawi respond much like the poor in America do to a lottery, giving what little they have in the hopes of “winning big.” This also makes this culture fertile ground for foundational Christian teachings and Biblical discipleship.

I’m always grateful when I’m able to stay in the homes of those I minister to. Pastor Blessings and his wife were my hosts and took very good care of me. I have found that often those with the least to offer are the most generous. Speaking of generosity, thanks so much for making this trip possible!
